Sidney Crosby AKA "Sid The Kid" is the star player for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the team captain for Canada. Drafted at the young age of 19, Sidney Crosby has won three Stanley Cups and two gold medals at the Olympics.

His Early Life

Crosby was born on August 7, 1987 in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Sidney Crosby's jersey number, number 87, and his 2007 contract signing ($8.7 million per year) are his birthdate (8/7/87).His father was big inspiration to play hoceky as he was goaltender who played for the Verdun Junior Canadiensin the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Troy played in the 1985 Memorial Cup and was drafted 240th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1984. He never made it as far as his son, not playing at an NHL level. Sideny Crosby admired his father and also was a Canadiens fan. Crosby began playing hockey by himself in his basement at the age of two years, shooting pucks in a net that had the family dryer behind it. He learned to skate at the young age of three. He was a straight A student through middle school.

Minor Hockey

In his minor hockey years, Crosby began attracting media attention for his skills. He took his first interview at the age of seven not knowing that this was the first of the hundred to come. When Crosby was 13, the Nova Scotia's Minor Hockey Council declined his right to play in the midget league, hockey for 15-17-year olds which lead to his family sdueing but losing. The following year, he entered the midget level with the triple-A Dartmouth Subways and came second-place in the 2002 Air Canada Cup. He was named the MVP and Top Scorer. During his midget season, Crosby appeared on the CBC's Hockey Day in Canada telecast. Crosby was called up as a 14-year-old to play two games with the Truro Bearcats. He has recalled numerous instances in which opposing players intentionally attempted to injure him, as well as verbal abuse from parents and players on and off the ice. Parents taunted and threatened Crosby so harshly, he didn't wearhis jersey between tournament games while he waited to play. Because of this, he went to play for the American hockey program at Shattuck-Saint.

Pittsburgh Penguins (2007- Present)

Sidney Crosby has had a great career, getting drafted for the Pittsburgh Penguins at the age of 19. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the only team he has played for in the NHL as he has a close connection to the Manager, Mario Lemieux, living with him in the first five years of his time in the NHl. So far, Sidney Crsoby has won three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Team Canada

Sidney Crosby has played for Team Canada as Assistant captain and also in the role of captain. He played in Vancover in 2010 and in Sochi in 2014 getting gold both times. He is now in the Olympic Hall Of Fame as of 2014.
